I'm pleased to report that the pottery classes are in full swing and
are being enjoyed by all the children. The kiln is in constant use,
full of coil pots, clay rabbits, dogs, cats, snakes and numerous interesting
pieces.

We do free
modeling with all the classes just so that they can get used to the
clay. The Nursery Classes usually do the free modeling combined with
"cookie cutting" and the Kindergarten Classes try to form
little animals (snail, snake, bears, etc.), snowmen, candy canes ,
faces, pots etc. All the children really enjoy decorating their work
with "sausages", little balls, hearts, flowers etc. So far
the Nursery Classes did the first letter of their name and their age
on a plate for alphabet and number recognition. For the Kindergarten
Classes we made plates with their full name and/or their age and then
have the children decorate the plates.
Right now we are doing with all the classes little wind chimes (round
base which has four "clay cookies" hanging down. With the
Kindergarten classes we start forming "pinch and coil pots"
and this week we did pencil holders. Once all the work has been bisque
fired we paint it with paint and glue (for the shine) and the kindergarten
classes paint their work with glaze.
Here
are some photos of the Waterfall Project that was created by our Kindergarten
2 class.
If
there are any interested parents or friends who would care to join
our mornings and after-school class please click here
for more information and to sign up. Why should the children have
all the fun? Try for yourself, coil pots, slab pots, pinch pots or
throwing on the wheel.
